One of the best summer events in Southern California is the Orange County Fair! Being a born and raised Orange County girl, I try to make it to the fair every year. Usually I attend a concert or two, or go to try all the interesting food – Chocolate Covered Bacon? Deep Fried Bacon Wrapped Pickles? Sloppy Joes on Krispy Kreme Donuts? But this year I decided to actually participate in the fair by entering the OC Cupcake Classic!
The OC Cupcake Classic took place Saturday, August 3rd at the OC Promenade building. Little did I know, but it was a live judging! All the cupcakes were judged on Taste, Appearance and Originality. Four tables of judges sat on the stage and sampled 290 cupcake entries! Could you imagine having to taste 290 cupcakes? Somewhere in the mix of all those cupcakes were my two entries. For the Chocolate category, I entered the Irish Car Bomb Cupcake: Chocolate Guinness Cupcake filled with Irish Whiskey Ganche and topped with Bailey’s Buttercream. For the Vanilla/Spice category, I entered the Breakfast Cupcake: Buttermilk Cupcake with Maple Bacon topped with Maple Buttercream.
Truth be told, I hate being around when people eat my cupcakes. When the judging started at 1pm, I popped in to take a couple pictures then headed home. Of course I had to find out how I did, so I went back that evening for more fair fun and to check out the results. And it was a good thing I already had a beer in hand because there was no ribbon next to my cupcakes!
As I was writing this post, I headed over to the OC Fair website for more information about the contest. I just so happened to see they had the results posted and guess what? I actually placed in the top 10 for both the Chocolate and Vanilla/Spice! YAY!!! But honestly, it was never about winning! I absolutely love what I do! And to be able to participate in an event at the OC Fair such a treat! Can’t wait to sign up for next year!
Each year I Hart Cupcakes likes to give back to the community. This year I was contacted to participate in the 30th Annual Charity Golf Tournament 2013 CSP Swing for Kids. The Golf Tournament benefitted the CSP’s Children’s Shelters and Family Counseling Programs.
The Golf Tournament took place on Thursday, May 23rd at the beautiful Strawberry Farms Golf Course in Irvine, CA. I Hart Cupcakes was stationed at Hole 8, as known as the Sweet Spot! We handed out over 200 cupcakes to hungry golfers throughout the day.
Our menu included some of I Hart Cupcakes most popular flavors including Red Velvet, Vanilla Oreo, Chocolate Oreo, Snickers, Maple Bacon, Reese’s, Lemon, S’Mores, Banana Nutella, Vanilla and Carrot Cake! The Maple Bacon Cupcakes were by far the favorite of the day! Go figure with a bunch of men!
It was a perfect day! A special thank you to everyone who helped bring this together including Christina, Laura, Bestest & Mom! Without you fabulous ladies this would not have come together!!! THANK YOU!

Mommy to Bee – what a ridiculously cute baby shower theme! Last Saturday Mommy Krissy was surprised by her family with this oh so sweet shower! Her sister, Jenna, went all out with all the details for her soon to nephew! Pinterest would be proud!
Now what would a Mommy to Bee Baby Shower be without some bee inspired cupcakes? The four dozen were Vanilla Cupcakes topped with a Honey Buttercream, Lemon Cupcakes filled with a tart Lemon Curd then topped with a Lemon Swiss Meringue and a Chocolate Oreo Cupcakes topped with Cream Cheese frosting. For decorations some of the cupcakes were topped with Custom Cupcake Toppers, Mini Fondant Bees and simple sprinkles. With the black polka dot ribbon cake stand, the whole cupcake table came out better than I expected!
And the pictures just don’t do this party justice. It was so adorable! The shower was held at the Assistance League in Old Towne Orange. Sister Jenna went all out with the decorations. Just imagine black, yellow, polka dot everywhere! There was a sweet candy bar, guess the number of honeycombs, late night diaper message and so much more! The Auntie to Bee did an amazing job!
Camo Cupcakes reporting for duty! Yes, sir you heard me right…Camo Cupcakes! I mean can you even see them? At our office you’re never too old to have an Army Camo Birthday. And that’s just what one of my co-workers received on his special day!
The splotches of green and brown and black and tan are actually Vanilla and Chocolate Cupcake, then topped with Vanilla and Chocolate swirled Frosting! Making cupcakes for males (boys and men) can be such a pain! But of all the cupcakes I’ve made for the boys in my life, these are my favorite! Can’t wait to make them again!!!
